CII & DRFHE : Awareness for Life Session on Ergonomics

Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida organized a one day seminar on “Ergonomics” on 17th March, 2016. This session was conducted by Dr. Reddy’s Foundation for Health Education (DRFHE) in association with Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
The objective of the session was to identify and control the ergonomic risks for developing musculoskeletal disorders.
The session started with the welcome address of the Resource Person Dr. Mandeep Singh, an Orthopedician working in Escorts Hospital, New Delhi. As a token of respect a bouquet was presented to Dr. Singh by Prof. (Dr.) S.K. Bagga, Director, DGI Greater Noida.
Dr. Singh started the session with the overview of Ergonomics. He focused on Ergonomics with stress on :
1. Occupational injury and illness reduction
2. Workers’ compensation costs containment
3. Productivity improvement
4. Work quality improvement
5. Absenteeism reduction
6. Government regulation compliance
He also focused on methods through which one can achieve these goals. He mentioned following point s:
1. Evaluation and control of work site risk factors
2. Identification and quantification of existing work site risk conditions
3. Recommendation of engineering and administrative controls to reduce the identified risk conditions
4. Education of management and workers to risk conditions
Dr. Singh detailed the work characteristics like Posture, Force, Velocity, Repetition, Duration, Recovery Time, Heavy Dynamic Exertion as well as Environmental characteristics like Heat stress, Cold Stress, Lighting, and Noise.
Dr. Singh gave a demo of some exercises to relax the body. He explained some Neck and Face Exercises, Eye Exercises, Shoulder and Arms Exercises, Wrist and Hand Exercises, Back Exercises, Leg and Ankle Exercises etc. Participants were encouraged to consider the ergonomic risks in their workplace.
The session came to end with the presentation memento to Dr. Mandeep Singh by Dr. S K Bagga.
