QEEE Session on ‘BJT, MOSFET & Amplifiers - Analog Electronics Circuits’

Conducted by IIT, Madras

27th Jan, 2nd Feb & 5th Feb 2016

The QEEE Session on ‘BJT, MOSFET & Amplifiers - Analog Electronics Circuits’ was organized at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida in association with IIT, Madras under NME - Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Program of MHRD. Quality Enhancement in Engineering Education (QEEE) is a program funded by MHRD (Ministry of Human Resource and Development) with an objective to enhance the quality of technical education for Under Graduate courses in Engineering Colleges all over India. The session was scheduled for 3 days i.e. 27th Jan 2016, 02 & 05 Feb 2016 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon. B. Tech. 2nd Year ECE students attended the session. Prof. Hitesh Shrimali (IIT, Mandi) was the resource person for this program. The students of ECE 2nd year were accompanied by their faculty coordinator Mr. Nitin Kumar (Assistant Professor, Department of ECE).

The first day, 27th January 2016 he explained the basics of Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJT) & Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors (MOSFET), their structural, transfer characteristics and the voltage and current relations of all terminals. He also explained about two port network and how to obtain its impedance and admittance parameters. By this he explained to derive the small scale model of BJT & MOSFET. He also explained the basics of Metal Oxide Semiconductor Field Effect Transistors (MOSFET), the structure of MOSFET, its transfer characteristics and the voltage and current relations of all four terminals (source, drain, gate & base). He also explained to derive the small scale model of MOSFET.

The importance of these small scale models is that they can be used to simplify a larger circuit containing BJT and/or MOSFET to obtain its characteristics. Hence it will be useful in further study of amplifiers and other active device circuits.

The second day, 2nd February 2016 he explained the DC analysis of Bipolar Junction Transistors (BJT), the Emitter Degeneration configuration of BJT and self biasing configuration. He also explained about the Common Emitter, Common Collector and Common Base amplifier configurations.

He also explained the DC biasing of MOSFET, the Single Transistor Amplifier, Diode configured MOS, Resistive Load configuration and the Source Degeneration configuration. He also explained Common Source, Common Drain & Common Gate amplifier configurations.

The Third day, 5th February 2016 he explained the Single ended, Pseudo Differential, Differential and Full Differential configurations. He also explained Differential Noise Elimination circuit and its uses. He explained the common mode voltage (VCMO/VCMI) & Common Mode Rejection Ratio (CMRR) of different configurations. He also explained common mode gain (Acm) and AC gain (Adiff) of these configurations.

The QEEE: ‘Amplifiers - Analog Electronics Circuits’ classes ended with the Q/A session. The session was very educative and beneficial for students.
