Bharati Vidyapeeth's College of Engineering, New Delhi conducted a 5 days Faculty Development Program on “Java Fundamentals and Programming” in association with Oracle Academy from 27th July to 31st July, 2015. Dr. Vanita Jain, Associate Professor, IT Department, Bharati Vidyapeeth's College of Engineering, New Delhi coordinated this event. The objective of this workshop was to improve the fundamental concept of faculty members in Java Programming and to make good gaming projects using Greenfoot so that the quality of education can be brought to an advanced level. Dr. Sarika Agarwal, Assistant professor, Department of Electronics & Communication, Ms. Priyanka Tripathi, Assistant Professor, Department of Information Technology & Ms. Shivangi Maheshwari, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida participated in the event. |

The inaugural ceremony of 5 days Faculty Development Program was initiated in the presence of the Chief Guest, Ms. Suji Gopalan Uchil, Manager (Operations & Training)-Oracle Academy, Dr. Dharmender Saini, (PRINCIPAL) - BVCOE, New Delhi and Dr. Vanita Jain, (HOD)- IT Department, BVCOE, New Delhi and distinguished faculty members. |

Oracle Academy took a pertinent initiative to help educators in generating students’ interest in the important fields of Computer Science and Engineering. The Oracle Academy made available latest CS educational resources which have industrial relevance. Oracle iLearning, an enterprise Learning Management System (LMS) and a core component of Oracle's E-Business Suite which provides a complete infrastructure for organizations to manage, deliver and track training for online and classroom based environment was used as the main mode of the training. |

The first day of the training program began at 9:00 am sharp with the inaugural ceremony in which all dignitaries were present on the Dias and performed a lamp lightening ritual. The honourable Chief Guest Dr. Dharmender Saini, addressed the participants and explained about the objective of the training program. Ms. Suji Gopalan Uchil, welcomed all the participants and started the training program with an introductory session. She continued the training program with the topic “Getting Started with Greenfoot” in which she covered the topics like ways to use methods, variables, parameters in Greenfoot and how to work with source code and documentation. She also explained the methods for developing and testing an application in Greenfoot. She prolonged her training session with the topics like using Randomization, Dot Notation and Constructors followed by a practice session of programming in Greenfoot. She discussed about different ways of defining methods and using sound and keyboard control. The first day of training program ended with the formation of team and group project strategy.

28th July 2015
The second day of training program began with the practice session of Programming in Greenfoot. Ms. Suji Gopalan Uchil, continued the training program with the topic like creating a world, animating actors and ending a game, followed by a practice session on the topics covered. She taught about abstraction and its usage in Greenfoot. She continued the training session with the topics like using Loops, variables and Strings followed by a practice session of Programming in Greenfoot. She had also discussed about different ways of defining methods and using sound and keyboard control and creating an inventory of Java fundamental. The second day of training program ended with the discussion on programming of team project.

29th July 2015
On the third day of training program, Ms. Suji Gopalan Uchil, delivered lectures on the topics like compiling with Eclipse, Control flow statements and Blocks of Code. She taught about programming with Data Types and Operators. In this training session she covered the topics like using Program Control Statements, Classes, Objects and Methods. Very interestingly she discussed about different methods of using arrays, ways of handling errors and using String objects. The third day of training program summed up with the discussion on programming of team project. |

30th July 2015
On the fourth day of the training program, Ms. Suji Gopalan Uchil, continued the lectures on the topic like passing objects and overloading methods and understanding recursion. Then after the mid-morning break she continued with the recursion. She continued the training session while having a discussion on valuable topics like the Static Modifier and Nested Classes. She discussed about Inheritance and Polymorphism in Java. This session ended with the discussion on preparation of team project presentation. |

31st July 2015
The fifth day of the training program began with the final exam of Java fundamentals and Java Programming on the basis of which all the participants were evaluated. Presentations and demonstrations related to their team projects were made by the participants. Ms. Suji Gopalan Uchil highly appreciated the efforts of the participants and congratulated them for their successful project work. The session was made fruitful by the participants when they shared their experiences during this whole event and gave views on the training program. Dr. Vanita Jain summarized the training program and gave a token of appreciation to the faculty members, participants and organizers. |

The event ended with the distribution of course completion and participation certificates in the valedictory session. Dr. Vanita Jain delivered a Vote of Thanks and congratulated everyone for this 5 days successful training program. |
