FICCI 26th APRIL 2013

A Felicitation ceremony was organized by FICCI on 26th April 2013 to award trophy and cash prize to the winners of the Debate Competition which was held on 17th April 2013 of Delhi NCR Colleges. Out of the three prizes announced, second and third prize were awarded to Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida. The first prize was bagged by IIT Delhi while second and third prizes were awarded to Sayani Chakraborty and Harshit Pundhir of DGI respectively. Prof. TPN Singh, Advisor (R&D) also attended the meet as an invitee representing DGI, Greater Noida.

The felicitation ceremony was a part of the program of the conference on “IP Creation, Protection & Exploitation: A Way Forward”. The distinguished panel members were:-

1. Dr. Didar Singh – Secy Gen , FICCI

2. Shri Chaitanya Prasad – Controller General of Patents

3. Shri Saurabh Chandra – Secy, Dept. of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP), Min of Commerce & Industry

4. Shri Narendra K. Sabharwal – Chairman, FICCI IPCommittee & Former Dy Director General, WIPO

Dr. Didar Singh welcomed the panel members, all guests and conveyed his deep appreciation to the participants of the debate competition. He singularly mentioned the prize winners and greatly applauded their zeal and enthusiasm. 26th April is being celebrated as the world IPR day and he paid tributes to the achievements of India in this esoteric area. He stated that the ideas acquired from the youth and young minds have found space in the National Planning and Strategy domain of IP.The anti-piracy cell is doing a yeoman’s job in restricting false practices and flourishing of spurious products. The country needs a strong IP strategy and is looking up to the students at college level to contribute substantially for gainful outcome. Shri Chaitanya Prasad traced the origin of World IP day which started in 1970. IP system drives technological innovations and in this aspect FICCI, DIPP and numerous associations are significantly contributing. He complimented the winners of Debate competition and held them as flag bearers for helping in creating awareness of IP in young minds and ushering a new era.

Shri Saurabh Chandra emphasized that Innovation has to be initiated in class rooms. It has to be fostered, incentivized and grown at school and college level. He mentioned that Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of IPR has been established at Nagpur in 2012 which shall train people in this field and act as a Think Tank. The winners of the debate competition were felicitated by the panel members. Sayani Chakraborty received a glittering trophy and a cash prize of Rs 3100/-. Harshit Pundhir received a similar trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2100/-
