Mr. Sapan Kumar Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Electronics & Communication Engineering from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the guest lecture.

The event started with a formal introduction of the Guest by Prof. Mini Shaji Thomas. She introduced Prof. Chun as a former Vice-Chair and Secretary of IEEE Region 10 in the year 2009-2012 and presently serving as Award Chair. Prof. Chun is also nominated for the director of IEEE Region 10 by the nomination committee of IEEE Region 10.

The technical session by Prof. Chun started with an introduction of Micro-Electro-Mechanical System (MEMS). He progressed to the lecture through the intricacies of the MEMS construction technology including the process such as deposition, patterning, lithography, etching, sputtering etc. He went on to demonstrate the process of Bulk micromachining, surface micromachining, high aspect ratio silicon micromachining etc. He quoted several examples including:

1- Accelerometers in modern cars for a large number of purposes including airbag deployment in collisions.

2- Optical switching technology, which is used in switching technology and alignment for data communications.

3- Bio-MEMS applications in medical and health related technologies from Lab-On-a-Chip (LOC) to Micro Total Analysis System (µTAS).

4- MEMS microphones in portable devices, e.g., mobile phones.
