IETE celebrated its 62nd Foundation Day at IETE Head Quarters, New Delhi on 2nd November 2015. The theme of the event was “Role OF IETE in Digital India”. Two faculty members Prof. H. S. Dua and Mr. Sunil Kumar from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida along with 6 students from ECE and EEE department attended the program.

4. Mr. Muktavesh, DCP Traffic Police, Delhi.
Dr. G. Sateesh Reddy SA to Raksha Mantri was the Chief Guest of the function. The IETE dignitaries were Dr. Smriti Dagar, President IETE and Maj. Gen. Jaggia (Retd), Secretary General, IETE started the event with their welcome speeches.
The eminent speakers highlighted that the aim of Digital India is to transform India into “Knowledge Economy”. It is an initiative to bring revolution by establishing smart cities and supported by other initiatives like SKILL INDIA & MAKE IN INDIA. Nine pillars of Digital India projected by the Govt. were discussed and need of integrated work to achieve the aim through these pillars was emphasized. These nine pillars are:
1. Broad Band Highway,
2. Universal Access to Internet,
3. E-kranti,
4. E-Governance,
5. Information for All,
6. Electronics Manufacturing,
7. Electronics & IT Jobs,
8. Early Harvest and Digital Empowerment of Citizens.
In the discussion session the speakers opined that The Digital India is expected to transform the education system of India. The quality of education in general & especially of higher education is lacking. It was brought out that the course curriculum should be more Industry friendly & soft skills should be part of all the courses.
It also came out from the discussion of these dignitaries that the country is facing challenges in the fields of energy, health, water management, power shortages, disaster preparedness, environment etc. These challenges can be mitigated by Digital India, which will result in improvement in the quality of life of the citizens. IETE having considerable expertise can play a prominent role towards establishment of Digital India.
It was stressed that Digital India can succeed only if proper infrastructure is built including in rural areas. To check migration of population from rural to urban areas, e-connection, knowledge distribution and skill development initiatives should be available in the rural sector as well. The need for proper vocational training was also stressed upon.
At the end of the event shawl and memento was awarded to Prof H. S. Dua from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida at the ceremony.
Major Gen. P.K Jaggia, Secretariat General of IETE, concluded the event with a thanksgiving speech. It was a very knowledgeable event as the participants got an opportunity to be a part of such important discussion by noted personnel.
