National Service Scheme (NSS) Mega Camp was organized by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India in collaboration with Dibrugarh University and Majuli College of Dibrugarh University, Assam during 21st -29th January 2015 at Kamalabari, Majuli. The camp was attended by 350 NSS Volunteers and 35 program officers representing 27 states including Union Territories of India. The event aimed to energize youth and to make them aware of the composite culture of India. The camp involved camping activities for seven days which included cultural activities, social interactions and guest lectures by the eminent speakers on various national and international issues. |

In the inaugural ceremony Dr. Sashikanth Saikia, Principal, Majuli College delivered welcome address and the inauguration was done by Shri Sarvananda Sonawal, Union Minister for Youth Affairs. In his address to the NSS volunteers Mr. Sonowal motivated the students to become socially responsible citizen.

Prof. Alok Kr. Buragohin, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University discussed the role of NSS in creating Vibrant India. He also urged the students to remove social, economic and regional barriers to make India a perfect nation. |

Dr. G.K. Tutuja, NSS Program Advisor Govt. of India, Commissioner Upper Assam, Shri Sunil Kr. Basumatary, Youth Officer and Head NSS Regional Centre Guwahati, Dy. Commissioner, Jorhat also addressed the NSS volunteers. |

21ST JANUARY 2015
On the first Day there was an interactive session on “Communication Skills”. Prof. Buragohin and Dr. Tutuja delivered lectures and interacted with the volunteers. They also informed about the role of communication skill in a successful life. In post lunch break session all the states participants started preparation for their respective state cultural program. In the evening there was a fine fusion of the culture of various states. |

22ND JANUARY 2015
On the second day there was a session on “History and Culture of Assam”. In the session the participants were informed about the colorful culture of Assam. The importance of Bihu festival was highlighted which is celebrated when the crops become full of grains. This festival is celebrated for a week. |

23RD JANUARY 2015
On the third day a visit of various places was organized by the NSS officers and the volunteers enjoyed the rich and the vibrant Vaishnavite Cultural Heritage. They visited holy Sattras, their prayer halls and museums. They were also taken to their traditional houses and closely observed the unique lifestyle of the Mishing tribe and Deori tribe at Jengraimukh and Deoui villages. |

24TH JANUARY 2015
The first session began with the small introduction of the nature of Assam and second session on “flora and fauna of Assam”. Shri Sarvananda Sonawal highlighted the climatic condition and the natural beauty of Assam. After the session the students participated in debate and extempore and got chance to share their views on some current social and political issues. |

25TH JANUARY 2015
This session began with a discussion on “Politics Strength and Weakness”. The volunteers participated and shared their ideas on the given topic. Most of them emphasized that all political parties should work for the nation’s development rather than their own interest. In the post lunch session the students practiced for republic day parade with great zeal.

26th JANURAY 2015
The day began with the organized and enthusiastic Republic Day Parade by NSS Volunteers which was followed by National Anthem and flag hoisting by the Principal of Majuli College. The students also participated in “SWACHH BHARAT ABHIYAN” to make the country clean. |

27th JANUARY 2015
From 27th January 2015 till 30th January 2015 the venue of the camp was shifted to the campus of Dibrugarh University. The camp officers organized one day visit of various historical places, Holy lakes, temples and industrial township of Digboi which was followed by a cultural program in the Rangghar Auditorium, Dibrugarh University. |

28th JANUARY 2015
The volunteers visited “Dibrugarh College” and “Oil Refinery Museum”. The students participated in cultural program that enhanced their knowledge about the rich and composite culture of India. The volunteers exhibited the culture of their respective state in the form of vibrant performances.

29th JANUARY 2015
The valedictory session was held on the 29th January 2015 in Dibrugarh University. Mr. Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MP, Johrat, encouraged the students to develop intrapersonal skills and learn from the platform provided by the NSS camp. NSS Volunteers also shared their experience regarding the camp and expressed their gratitude to the organizers for their warm hospitality. |
|
It was a great learning platform for all the NSS volunteers as they got opportunity to interact on various national and international issues, including social, political and educational issues.
