Workshop on
‘Corporate Communication and Etiquettes’ by ‘THE EDUCATION TREE’

A TEAM of 6 students accompanied by the Training & Placement Officer, Ms. Prachi Agarwal visited the ‘MIRANDA HOUSE’ campus of University of Delhi to attend the workshop on ‘Corporate Communication and Etiquettes’ conducted by ‘THE EDUCATION TREE’ on 12th February, 2014.

 

‘The Education Tree’ is an initiative by young minds who are working selflessly to improve the employability of the students.

 

Mr. Kamal Seth from Education Tree was the resource person.

 

The session started at 1:30 PM with an introductory session by Mr. Seth. He stated the need to improve the communication skills within oneself and also the kind of culture incorporated in the corporates.

 

The following points were covered in the session.

1. How to write a resume?

2. 7 steps to prepare for the interview

3. How to do successful job interview?

4. Top 3 mistakes done in the interview.

5. Corporate Etiquettes

6. 10 rituals of super achievers

 

He stated that the resume should always be on not more than 2 pages. The idea of the resume is to give a brief about the student but the interviewer only has 5 seconds to look at it. Right spacing, short bullets accomplishments should be mentioned appropriately. He further stated that the resume should always reflect the internships and additional experience.

 

The next thing discussed was the 7 steps to walk before the interview.

 

1. The first and the foremost step is to be in positive state of mind.

2. One needs to look sharp and attentive before the interview in order to look confident.

3. The job description needs to be read properly.

4. One should always ask for advice in case of any confusion before facing the interview.

5. The homework should be done appropriately.

6. Be confident but do not sound arrogant

7. Be ready with the questions for the interviewer at the end of the interview.

 

The third point of discussion was ‘How to do successful job interview’. HE stated that the person should:-

1. Use their inner dreamer to share the professional vision of the job

2. Use the heart to stick to personal and professional commitments

3. Sue the inner thinker to move beyond the boundaries and take initiatives

4. And should stop giving superficial answers

 

Next point discussed were the top 3 mistake done in the interview.

1. The first and foremost is no research done about the company before appearing for the interview.

2. Not preparing well in advance and thinking that the answers to the questions can be given extempore.

3. The third mistake is not reevaluating the interview and not following up after appearing for the same.

 

He advised that the corporate culture is very different to the college life and hence a person needs to adjust and change himself accordingly and behave maturely. The ideal way to behave is by doing the following things:-

1. Introduce yourself to everyone you meet on the day 1 in the organization.

2. Greeting should be conveyed to all the people met.

3. The handshake should be firm and not too aggressive

4. The telephone etiquettes should be adhered to properly.

 

The best part discussed was the top 10 rituals followed by the super achievers:-

1. Dedication

2. Intelligent Persistence

3. Fostering a community

4. Listening and taking feedback positively

5. Good storytelling

6. Testing ideas in the market

7. Managing emotions

8. Constantly Evolving

9. Patience

10. Pursuing Happiness

 

After discussing this entire thing he moved over to the Q & A session. He asked our MBA student – Ms. Sunita Chauhan to introduce herself and was impressed by the answer and the audience applauded her for the same.

 

The session ended at 03:45 PM with the distribution of the certificates.
