Review & Sharing the Impact of the Foundation Course of ‘Human Values

& Professional Ethics

20th September 2015

Dr. A P J Abdul Kalam Technical University (Formerly- Uttar Pradesh Technical University) organized a Session on Revaluating and Gauging the Impact of the Introductory Audit Course of Human Values and Professional Ethics on September 20th, 2015 at JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida. Ms. Prachi Agarwal, Faculty MBA Department along with two students Arshnoor Tondon (CE Branch) and Deepak Kumar (ME Branch) represented Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida.

The Chief Guest of the program was Prof. Vinay Kumar Pathak- Hon’ble VC of APJ AKTU- Lucknow. The event started with lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, Prof. K Kamal- Director, JSSATEN, Prof. Rajul Asthana- IRCV, Jalandhar. This was followed by Ganesh Stuti and University- Kulgeet. Post this the guests were felicitated and the welcome address was delivered by Prof. K Kamal. He marked it as a special event as it was the very first event under the banner of DR. APJ AKTU. He stated that this course must be inculcated in daily lives of the individual, not only students but also the faculty and other college staff.

Post his welcome note, Prof. Asthana took over the session. He stated that the subject is based on Universal Human Values and is a process of self-verification. All the students who are studying this course must be able to identify the real situation and the superficial values. The course content satisfies the MHRD guidelines which are Universal, Verifiable and Rational. Before implementing in the curriculum this course was tried on Managers, Politicians and young kids. He reiterated that this course was started in the year 2005 at IIIT, Hyderabad with a belief that values can be taught not always caught. In the year 2013, 17 Universities introduced it in AP.

Prof. Asthana further advised the audience that Bhutan has even inculcated this in their curriculum and now they talk about Gross National Happiness and not just Gross Domestic Product in 2011, UN even added the mode of GNH in their agenda. The entire agenda of BVPE revolves around what needs to be done, learning how to do it and practicing the above.

The impact of this course is such that it betters the relationship, inculcates the sense of responsibility and gives clarity about the directions in life. The key points in the success of this course is involvement and support of the faculty and management, the teaching must be imparted only by those teachers who have attended the workshops and it should be taught by heart.

Post lunch session, different colleges presented the things they are practicing to make this course as a success. The presentations came out with the following thoughts and suggestions-

1. Questions on high value thinking.

2. Workshop by the senior management to change the perspective so that they take this course more seriously.

3. Every college must adopt one village to implement it.

The session wrap up note was delivered by Prof. Pathak and he stated the following points-

1. Human Value addition cell to be made in each college.

2. Interactive website to be made.

3. The session plan for the next year.

It was a very interactive session with lot of take aways from it.

The vote of thanks in the end was delivered by Prof. Sampath Kumar V, HOD ECE, JSS Academy of Technical Education, Noida.
