Industrial Visit to Festo Controls Pvt. Ltd.

Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida, organized one day Industrial Visit to “Festo Controls Pvt. Ltd.”, Noida on 5th September, 2014. The Industrial visit was conducted with an objective to make student learn about the role of Process Automation in packaging, medicine and food Industries. The visit enables the students to apply their classroom learning to a real-life situation while being mentored by a variety of industry experts. The initial round of the visits entails understanding the industry, the organization’s operations and the overall business environment.

 

Faculty member, Ms. Komal Madan along with 15 students from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida visited the company.

 

Festo Controls Pvt. Ltd. was founded in 1925 by Albert Fezer and Gottlieb Stoll. Initially, the company manufactured wood cutting tools and later diversified into the automation industry. Festo Controls (India) work to develop automation solutions for the process industry and advise on everything from engineering to trouble - free operation. This includes individual components such as process valves, valve terminals and electrical peripheral equipment, ready - to - install solutions and control cabinets as well as control panels and controllers for your systems.

 

Mr. Ugesh Sumathi Engineer, Didactic Festo Controls Pvt. Ltd., India welcomed the students and arranged visit to small scale production plant at Festo Controls. Mr Ugesh in his introductory session briefed about the company and its corporate responsibility which is based on motto, “Responsible Action, Healthy Growth and Across generations”.

 

Mr. Ugesh, discussed the products that are used for industrial application and overview of manufacturing process. He said the Festo sells Pneumatic and Electric transducers primarily to the automation industry and provides the training facilities to the students and industries. He demonstrated the technical knowledge and capabilities with the help of model products like Bionicopter, Aqua Jelly, Bionic kangaroo and many more.

 

Bionicopter is a robot which is 44 centimeters long and weighs 175 grams. It is capable of flying as well as moving up and down by using four wings just like a real dragonfly. In addition, it flaps from 900 to 1,200 times per minute. So, it is able to float in the air or glide through the sky without beating its wings. According to scientists, the newly developed Bionicopter will play the role of a spy plane for the next generation. It is possible to do various activities even in a confined space. Apart from this valuable knowledge of robotics, automation was given to the students during the industrial visit.

 

Students got familiar with various types of pneumatic and electric valves, actuators and various final control elements through the industrial visit to Festo Controls Pvt. Ltd. They saw the live demonstration of Robotino® which is the mobile robot platform for research and education. The industrial visit was very informative for the students.
