International Conference on Manufacturing Excellence (MENFEX 2016)

17th - 18th March 2016

3rd International Conference on ‘Manufacturing Excellence - (MANFEX 2016) was organized by Amity University Noida on 17th - 18th March 2016. The objective of the conference was to provide a platform for exchange of ideas and dissemination of knowledge related to excellence in manufacturing sector amongst Academia, Industry experts, Research Scholars, Scientists and Entrepreneurs. MANFEX 2016 comprised of three major categories : Research Paper Presentation, Business Ideas Competition and Technovision (Project Competition). Three projects from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida, participated in Technovision 2016.

In Inaugural Session, Dr. Balvinder Shukla, Vice Chancellor Amity University, Noida said that the global manufacturing landscape has been evolving at a very fast pace. He further said that organizations are required to strategize on improving operations, eliminating waste and creating lean processes. Dr. Shukla emphasized that the Government of India has taken several initiatives to promote the growth of manufacturing sector, making it one of the most invested sector in India.

Sharing his views on manufacturing excellence, Mr. R B Madhekar, CEO, Reliable Business Management Support System said that in corporate scenario, Manufacturing Industry is global which focuses on various factors including customer’s needs, quality, pricing etc. Mr. Madhekar emphasized that manufacturing excellence is working in accordance to specific needs of customers merged with innovative ideas and pointed that the major parameter in consideration for growth of industry is to reduce the cost and improve the quality.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Saurabh Mohan Saxena, Chief Operating Officer, ZF Chassis Limited said that Manufacturing Excellence is about integrating sustained quality and improvement in manufacturing for the development of economy. Dr. Saxena emphasized that manufacturing sector has a plenty of opportunities for growth and expansion, which promote extensive innovations in the sector.

Our students’ projects “Efficient Mechanical Rickshaw” & “Laborer Load Reducer” were adjudged the best and awarded as First and Third prize respectively during the project competition.

First Prize : Efficient Mechanical Rickshaw

The objective of the project is to utilize the mechanical energy stored in spiral (coil) springs in a cycle rickshaw. The idea of making this project comes from the fact that starting torque required by the rickshaw - puller is very high when rickshaw is loaded. To reduce this high starting torque we have installed certain spiral springs in the rickshaw. These spiral springs gets charged when the pedals are rotated in opposite direction i.e., we are utilizing the idle pedalling of rickshaw-puller to charge the spiral springs. Efficient Mechanical Rickshaw is very useful in hilly areas and it is boon for a rickshaw puller to compete with other passenger carrying vehicle in today’s scenario.

Third Prize : Laborer Load Reducer

Laborer Load Reducer is a lightweight, portable innovative design, which can play an instrumental role in completely reducing the stress on laborer. The design enables uniform distribution of load throughout the body of laborer reducing impact of load carried by them. The project is developed by using hollow light weight plastic pipes, which makes entire structure light in weight. The device not only helps to increase working efficiency of laborers but also will help to avoid injuries and health problems caused due to baring of load on their body.
