CII : National CSR Summit –Partnering the National Agenda

National CSR Summit –Partnering the National Agenda” was organized by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in cooperation with National Foundation for Corporate Governance (NFCG) on 29th April 2015 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. Ms. Lily Gupta, Dept of ECE, Dr. Santanu Koley, Dept. of CSE, and Mr. Amit Kumar Singh Chauhan, Dept. of ME, Faculty along with forty one students of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida attended the summit. More than two thousand delegates representing different government Ministries, Industry, Industry Associations, Academia, Financial Institutions attended the event.

 

Summit’s focus was on the key national priorities and programmes that the Government has articulated and how India Inc can partner through their CSR interventions.

 

Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Hon’ble President of India was the Chief Guest of the Summit. Mr. Chandrajit Banerjee, Director General, CII delivered the welcome note.

 

Shri Pranab Mukherjee addressed the inaugural session of the National Summit on CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). He congratulated the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) for organizing this annual conclave aimed at creating a strong, sustainable CSR movement in the country. He also complimented the National Foundation for Corporate Governance, with whom the CII has partnered for this 2015 edition of the Summit. He focused on structural development, society benefits and requested leading companies to encourage the down troddens. Speaking on the occasion, the President said that intensive collaborative efforts of the government and the corporate sector was required to provide the basics for improving the quality of life in rural and urban areas. According to him, Indian industry had displayed a keen interest in contributing to the betterment of the society. Shouldering the task of socio-economic development was increasingly considered a shared responsibility of the government and the industry. He emphasized on Swachh Bharat Mission and aimed at a Clean India by 2nd October, 2019 to coincide with the 150th Birth Anniversary of Gandhiji and Saansad Adarsh Gram Yojana.He assured that CSR Summit would generate many innovative ideas and methods towards building an inclusive, compassionate and responsive society in India. He wished the Summit great success. He concluded his speech quoting Mahatma Gandhi; "Man becomes great exactly in the degree in which he works for the welfare of his fellowmen”.

 

Mr. Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Summit Member, CII, explained the role of Confederation of Indian Industry in development of country. He gave a brief idea about Confederation of Indian Industry and its extended agenda beyond business and how it has been closely working in the field of social development.

 

Mr. Sumit Mazumder, President, CII, discussed various Programmes launched by government of India including the Swachh Bharat Mission, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Namami Gange and Adarsh Gram Yojna. He shared his vision of national development priorities and the role of industry there in to make India a strong nation. He also discussed the role of CII and CSR in three P’s (People, Planning and Profit), Woman and child health, Build India Share Responsibility and Public Development.

 

Ms. Anjuly Chib Duggal, Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, explained the need of section 135 and also discussed the significance of section 135. She told that this would consolidate and improve corporate governance and further strengthen the regulations for the corporate world. She emphasized on more activities beyond those mentioned in the Act which could be taken up for CSR activities by companies.

 

The President unveiled the logo of ‘Sammaan’, a platform for CSR created jointly by Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), CII and Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs. This logo symbolises the agreement of five thousand plus companies with CSR exchange. It was the world’s first CSR exchange.
