Skills and Personality Development Session

by Gillette

9th October 2015

Dronacharya Group of Institutions Greater Noida, organized a skills and personality development session by Gillette India for all B.Tech, MBA and MCA final year students. It was conducted on 9thOctober 2015.

Gillette needs no introduction in the market to anyone. Gillette is a brand of men's safety razors and other personal care products including shaving supplies, owned by the multi-national corporation Procter & Gamble (P&G). Based in Boston, Massachusetts, United States, it was originally owned by The Gillette Company, a supplier of products under various brands until that company merged into P&G in 2005. The Gillette Company was founded by King C. Gillette in 1901 as a safety razor manufacturer.

Mr. Ajit Bharti was the resource person for the event. He is a mnemonic expert with over 10 yrs of experience in the same field. A mnemonic is any learning technique that aids information retention. Mnemonics aim to translate information into a form that the human brain can retain better than its original form. Even the process of merely learning this conversion might already aid in the transfer of information to long-term memory. Commonly encountered mnemonics are often used for lists and in auditory form, such as short poems, acronyms, or memorable phrases, but mnemonics can also be used for other types of information and in visual or kinesthetic forms.

This was indeed a very nice session as being a student the main art is to remember things. This helps them in academics and also for further placement preparation. Mr. Bharti did a great exercise with the students to make them aware of the wonders of memory. He asked the students to randomly write 60 numbers on the board and read them out just by looking once, forwards and backwards. He shared the fact that the trick to remember anything is translating them into images and them remembering it. Also, he stated that the human brain remembers things that it most enjoys. Hence we remember songs, movie stills and other things which gave us pleasure.

So, the trick is to enjoy everything we do so that we remember all the things. He also stated that art to remember everything is to see it in bars, diagrams and large figures.

Post this session, all the students were divided group wise and were made to speak on the topics. This was extempore in nature. The students brain wracked their potential and expressed their views on the same.

After an interactive session, the following students were shortlisted for further rounds where they will compete on a state level:

1. Chetan Kandpal (EEE)

2. Prateek Sharma (ECE)

3. Anjali Aggarwal (CSE)

4. Kushal Bharadwaj (IT)

5. Aayush Chitransh (CE)

6. JitinLal VJ (ME)

It was indeed a very interactive session with the students learning tricks on memory building.
