Workshop on Quality Management Standards (QMS) & Quality Technology Tools (QTT)

 

Indian Habitat Centre (IHC), New Delhi

 

17th - 18th March, 2015

   

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in partnership with MSME organized two day Workshop on “Quality Management Standards (QMS) & Quality Technology Tools (QTT)” on 17th - 18th March, 2015 at Indian Habitat Centre, New Delhi. The two day workshop was attended by more than 70 delegates representing different government Ministries, Industry, Industry Associations, Academia, Financial Institutions, Support Organizers and Experts connected with the sector. Mr. Amit Chauhan, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida along with Sixth semester - B. Tech., Mechanical Engineering students namely Chandresh Upadhyay, Himanshu Shekhar, Pankaj Singh, Nagendra Pratap Singh and Mrigank Bagati attended the workshop.

 

The intent of the workshop was to familiarize the students with the technical terms and technical standards (i.e. ISO-9000) being used in National and International industries. In the span of these two days, student were exposed to understand the different processes being used to optimize the production and management process in an efficient manner.

 

First Day

Registration/Inaugural Session:

After registering physically, on 17th March, 2015 the students were hailed by Dr. Alka Kaul, Chairperson, CII Delhi State Council, and Director-HR and QMS Horizon Industrial Products Pvt. Ltd. Afterwards “Setting of Theme” was executed by Mr. V M. Jha, Deputy Director (Met.), MSME Development Institute, Ministry of MSME, Government of India, and the process was compiled by Mr. Surendra Yadavendra, Director, MSME Development Institute, Ministry of MSME, Government of India, by addressing the audience about the significance and benefits of upcoming sessions and their speakers.

 

Session I: Mr. C. V. Rao, Senior Assessor, CII (1200 – 1330 hrs.)

“Quality is nothing but meets the customer requirements.”

In this session, facilitator explained that how the mediocrity is different from excellence. The facilitator explained about the different steps (Phil Crosby concept) which leads to improved quality management. How to optimize the process up to the limit of approaching towards zero defect, what are the benefits of documentation, implementation and effectiveness kind of processes, were also discussed.

 

Session II: Mr. C. V. Rao, Senior Assessor, CII (1415 – 1545 hrs.)

“What you think? Customer satisfaction or customer success?”

The session covered the facts such as how to analyze the QMS, what are the perspectives of QMS, what are the management principle to which one should work upon. This session was found as must attend session for both who already are in industry and also who are willing to establish a new industry.

 

Session III: Mr. Ratan K Pal, Advisor, Quality Council of India (1600– 1730 hrs.)

“Look for simple solution of complex problems.”

This session was encapsulated of some advance operational excellence regarding necessary elements of MSME (Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises). The different techniques and principles such as Cause and effect diagrams, Peter’s principle and Japanese technique were touched.

 

Second Day

Session IV: Mr. Praveen (1030– 1200 hrs.)

The goal of the session was to understand the basics and applications of seven QC tool, failure mode and effect analysis and production part approval process. The session helped in understanding of establishment of ISO standard and continuity/revision of the same. The facilitator also explained the approaches of different rectifying methods of a problem. The different statistical tools being used in industries were discussed as follows;

1. Pareto Diagram

2. Histogram

3. Regression (Scatter Plot)

4. Control Chart etc.

 

Session V: Mr. Dhruv Dar, Director, American Society for Quality (1200– 1330 hrs.)

“Six Sigma: An efficient way or a Loophole?”

What is a product cycle? How to focus on customers? What are the real world challenges? How to improve the quality with minimum investment? These all sections were enlightened and summarized in a single method named “Six Sigma- Understanding and application to process industry”.

 

He explained that why it became necessary to develop a trick (Six Sigma) to eliminate a number of misconceptions and how it originated by Motorola industry. The complete working and benefits of six-sigma were also discussed.

 

Session VI: Mr. Ratan K Pal, Advisor, Quality Council of India (1415– 1545 hrs.)

In this session, approach towards Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) by achieving the following three zeros techniques were discussed by the acquainted personality of IIT Kharagpur;

1. Zero Breakdown

2. Zero Accidents

3. Zero Defects

 

Session VII: Mr. Manoj Aggrawal, Director, Margdarshan & Mr. Karan Kantoor, CEO, Encon System International (1545– 1645 hrs.)

 

This session (chaired by two personalities) came in a most efficient way by sharing the thoughts about benefits derived from QMS-QTT implementation in MSME. A few case studies were discussed to help in understanding the directive application of Six Sigma and other technology tools.

 

Session VII: Suggestion, Q&A session (1645-1715 hrs.)

 

Session VIII: Valedictory Session (1715-1745 hrs.)

The process of certification by Government of India, CII/MSME was completed and the certificates were distributed to all the participants at the end of the workshop.

 

Note:

1. The Q&A session (of last 15 min. in each session) timing is included in all above sessions.

2. In between span time, among different sessions was used for Lunch and Tea time.
