IBM CE - Basics of Information Management with DB2 |

A Two week training program on ‘IBM CE-Basics of Information Management with DB2’ was organized at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida during April 5th - 16th, 2014. 113 participants including 108 Students and 5 faculty members participated in this training program. Participants included students from Computer Science & Engineering (CSE), Information Technology (IT) and Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) branches. Mr. Manoj Kumar Yadav, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering coordinated the event. |

The training sessions were delivered by Mr. Vinod Patidar, Sr. Trainer from Web Tek Labs Pvt. Ltd, IBM Education Delivery Partner. The proceedings of the day one of the training commenced with an inaugural session attended by Dr. (Prof) M. S. Murali, Director, Prof. B. L. Kaul, Registrar, Prof. Ashwani Kumar, Academic Administrator, Head of Department of CSE , IT and ECE, DGI, Gr. Noida. Dr. M. S. Murali, in his inaugural address urged the students to complete the workshop with sincerity and dedication. |

The First technical session on day one covered the introductory part about the IBM CE Basics of Information Management with DB2. The trainer explained the installation of DB2, basics of command processing followed by a hands on lab session. The next technical session included discussions on Relational database concepts its sub-topics such as Information and Data Models, the Relational Model, Entity-Relationship diagrams, Types of Relationships, Mapping Entities to Tables, Relational Model Concepts, Relational Model Constraints and Normalization followed by another hands on lab session to practice the concepts. |

The Second day sessions covered detailed explanation on “Getting started with DB2” including knowledge on DB2 server editions, Clients and Drivers, DB2 Express-C overview, The DB2 Command Line Processor, The DB2 Environment, Configuring DB2, Working With Scripts, Connecting to a DB2 server, Data movement utilities. A practice session followed the lecture session. |

On the Third day of the training, the students were taught Database objects with an introduction to SQL, The SELECT statement, The UPDATE, INSERT and DELETE statements. Advanced concepts like working with JOINs was also discussed followed by practice sessions. |

The sessions on the fourth and fifth day delved deeper into the DB2 architecture and performance. “Data Concurrency and Locking” along with Transactions, Concurrency & Locking, Lock Wait, Deadlocks, DB2 security overview, Authentication, Authorization, Roles, The PUBLIC group, Granular access through views, Label-based access control were covered on day four and “DB2 backup and recovery” with sub-topics Backup and recovery overview, Database logging, Backup, Recovery followed by lab sessions were covered on the fifth day. |

The sessions in the next three days covered application development with DB2 and troubleshooting with extensive lab sessions. The training completed on the ninth day of the workshop with a recapitulation of IBM-DB2 concepts and a mock preparatory test conducted by the trainer to give an insight to the students into the certification exam. |
|
The well planned execution of the workshop resulted in a very high satisfaction level of the participants. All participants enhanced their knowledge base about DB2. The workshop equipped them not only with basic knowledge of DB2 but also advanced concepts leading to their eligibility for appearing in the Global Certification examination on DB2. |
|
The Online certification exam for IBM-DB2 Academic Associate Certification was conducted by IBM on May 1st, 2014. The exam was proctored by Mr. Mayank Jha, Regional Manager (North and East), Career Education, IBM India Pvt. Ltd. |
|
61 students and 5 faculty members successfully completed the certification exam and obtained the Global IBM DB2 Academic Associate Certification. The list of the certified staff members and the students is as per below: |
