Cloud summit 2013 was organized by CII on the theme “Developing Cloud Strategy” on 29th October, 2013 at Le Meridian Hotel, New Delhi. |

The event witnessed participants from industry, academia and the government sectors and was addressed by key policy makers from several organizations. Ms. Komal Grover, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering attended the event from Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida. The event commenced with a welcome address by Mr. Bhaskar Pramanik, Chairman, CII National Committee on IT, ITeS & E-commerce and Chairman, Microsoft Corporation India. He laid stress on provision of enhanced bandwidth along with affordability and availability of internet connectivity to drive the cloud revolution. |

The theme address delivered by Mr. Rajan Janey, President, India and SAARC, EMC IT Solutions India Pvt. Ltd. focusedon the development of cloud strategies in the largest consumer country for the cloud applications and special address by Mr. J. Satyanarayana, Secretary, Department of Electronics & IT, Govt. of India for the development of cloud computing in India. |

The first technical session included talks on ‘Cloudonomics: Driving Adoption’ and the deliberations focused on inclusive growth of the cloud based on consumer understanding of the internet and awareness of the transformation potential of this field. The speakers included Mr. Pradyumn K. Lavaniya, Director – Cloud Business EmC IT Solutions India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Najib Khan, Chief Executive Officer –Homes and offices, Bharti Airtel Ltd., Ms. Karuna Gopal, President, Foundation for Futuristic Cities and Mr. Biswapriya Bhattacharjee, Group Business Director, IMRB International. The session was succeeded by a panel discussion and lunch for the participants. |

The second technical session ‘Policy Landscape: Challenges and Opportunities’ was based on the fact that the cloud presents tremendous opportunities to fast track the delivery of services that can herald a myriad of solutions for consumer in India. While the cloud promises to change the way the Indian business and government leverages technology to their benefit. It also present significant challenges relating to security and privacy of data. Government of India in working in enabling cloud services in India covering aspects like jurisdictions, cross border data flow, data security , data location etc. The session will deliberate on the security of the government and non-government data, adoption of cloud in MS ME, new business models, development of echo system to attract investments and roles of service and technology providers. The speakers of this session included Mr. Sridhar Pinnapureddy, Founder and Chief Executive officer, Ctrls Data centers Ltd., Mr. Tom Heerey, Director-Senior Attorney, Legal and Corporate Affairs, Microsoft Corporation India Pvt. Ltd. and Mr. SuhaanMukerji, Partner, PLR Chambers. |

The final session ‘Demystifying – Cloud and Big Data’ addressed the challenge for organizations to gather and analyze the data, and react to customers in real time, providing an unprecedented level of responsiveness and relevance. It also discussed careful development of a national cloud strategy to ensure that maximum befits of the cloud accrue to the nation while minimizing the risk. The speakers of this session included Mr. Srikanth Kamakota, Director-server and cloud, Microsoft Corporation India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Varun Sood, Co-Chair, CII National CIO Forum and Head-IT, Fortis Healthcare Group, Mr. Lalit Mohan Sanagavarapu, Senior Technology Manager, IDRBT, Mr. C. N. Raghupathi, Chairman, CII Sub Committee on IT for Domestic Industry and Head-India Business & Vice President, Infosys Ltd. and Mr. Rajesh Uppal, Co-Chair, CII National CIO Forum & Senior Vice President & Chief Information officer, Maruti Suzuki Ltd. |
