A Report on
COGNIZANCE-2013
IIT Roorkee
22nd - 24th March, 2013

Ajay Panwar (DCEGN-10-IT-5123) and Varun Kumar Dutta (DCEGN-10-IT-5153) attended a Workshop on Entrepreneurship during COGNIZANCE-2013 held at Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee during 23rd -24th March 2013.

The workshop started with the basic meaning of Entrepreneurship. Entrepreneurship is the act of being an entrepreneur, which can be defined as "one who undertakes innovations, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform innovations into economic goods".

The workshop consisted of three modules.

Module A stretched our imagination and introduced us to the entrepreneurial way of thinking.

Module B covered issues and opportunities in entrepreneurship development and the small-scale sector in India.

Module C showed how to search for innovative opportunities and how to develop an innovative idea into a viable business proposal. Above all, it focused on why we must start our own business in India today.

The last module was one to one communication between the faculties and the students. Participants were asked for an innovative idea that could be converted into business.

Participants received an unparalleled education and experience in the field of entrepreneurship and management techniques. The workshop was not just a run of the mill academic exercise acquainting them with the theories and concepts, it was a practical hands on discussion and brainstorming session on how effective entrepreneurial thinking can be acquired.

Original thoughts and radical ideas take shape in young minds. This workshop intended to pierce the corporate veil, to let the budding entrepreneurs get a feel of how the corporate world works. In all it would be the cherished dream of Cognizance '13 to create corporates out of the present day technocrats.

Ajay and Varun presented a business idea regarding an advertisement in the notebooks. The idea was well received by the audience. On an average a notebook costs Rs. 25 in the market. If small scale companies are roped in the same note book can be sold around Rs.15 or even less.

This means if 1000 notebook is sold in a day, an average of Rs. 1 lakh can be earned in a month. The same plan can be used for large scale business also.

It was a great experience for the students as they were exposed to the wide world of entrepreneurship.
