A pre event workshop for Samsung Appathon 2013 was organized in Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida on 25th October 2013.

A total of 90 students from Computer Science Engineering, Information Technology, Master of Computer Applications & Applied Sciences attended this event. The event was graced by Hon’ble Director Dr. M. S. Murali, Director, DGI, Prof. B. L. Kaul, Registrar, DGI, Mr. Ashwani Kumar, Academic Administrator, DGI. The event started with Dr. M. S. Murali, giving a floral welcome to the team from Samsung.

A team comprising of three from Samsung India Pvt. Ltd., Mr. Deepak Verma (Manager-MS Business Development Group), Mr. Sarfaraz Nawaz Alam Borah (Lead-Mobile Applications & Services) & Mr. Ravibhushan B Tayshete (Technical Manager Mobile R&D) addressed the students on three tracks including marketing, innovation and technical aspects of app development.

Mr. Deepak Verma reiterated the fact that Samsung is indeed the major market holder in the smartphones category. In order to reach the masses further and make the use of smartphones possible for all he emphasized the need for applications in vernacular languages. Samsung Appathon is a step in this direction to reach out the masses.

He also said that the Samsung Appathon 2013 is a platform for all the budding developers to showcase their skills and reach out to a market of millions of smartphone users and the same would gradually benefit them in the long run when they are on the lookout for jobs in corporate sector.

Mr. Sarfarz Alam Nawaz Borah introduced the students to the various target devices for which they would be developing apps mainly-S4, Grand, Note 3, Tab 3 etc. He briefed the students on the various steps the students need to perform during developing their apps.

Mr. Ravibhushan familiarized the participants as to how to use the Samsung SDK, strings for Vernacular languages. He also explained the certification guidelines that the participants need to adhere to in order to get their apps published on the Samsung App Store. He also demonstrated the students how to build and upload their apps on the Samsung App store.

The event came to an end with a vote of thanks by Prof. Sachin Gupta (HOD, CSE) to Team Samsung. He urged the students to use this opportunity to the fullest to skyrocket their professional careers.
