Data Mining and Social Media Analytics – Emerging Trends and Challenges

Ms. Komal Grover from CSE Department of Dronacharya Group of Institutions was delegated to attend the one day Faculty Development Programmeon Data Mining and Social Media Analytics – Emerging Trends and Challenges was organized by the CSI Chapter of Bharati Vidyapeeth’s Institite of Computer Applications and Management, Delhi on 21st December 2013.

 

Social media analytics is a powerful tool for uncovering customer sentiment dispersed across countless online sources. As businesses feel the pressure to gain new insights from social media, they require the analytics expertise to transform this flood of information into actionable strategies. The FDP focused on the emerging trends in Social media analytics and data mining applications.

 

The event started with a Welcome Address by Prof. M. N. Hoda, Director, BVICAM and Mr. R. K. Vyas Regional Vice President, Computer Society of India. The inaugural address was delivered by Mr. Prakash Kumar, Microsoft, Delhi.

 

The first technical session focused on “Mining Nuggets from Data – Emerging Trends” delivered by Dr. Muhammad Abdulaish, Head, Deptt of Computer Science, JamiaMilliaIslamia, Delhi. In his address, Dr. Abdulaish shared that the rise of social media has been accompanied by the creation of tools to that analyze the impact of most of your social media activities. For anyone serious about building their online presence or help grow their businesses’ reach online, social media analytics tools are essential. He also deliberated on the Applications of Social Network Analysis and Mining in the third technical session.

 

Mr. Sajid Y Bhat from the Department of Computer Science, JamiaMilliaIslamia, Delhi delivered three technical sessions progressively demonstrating Data Generation and Pre Processing using Rapid Miner tool through Visualization of Data through Gephi besides data Classification and Clustering.

 

The event concluded with a Valedictory Session including a vote of thanks` and distribution of certificates to the participants.
