An industrial visit of over 190 students of Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida was organized by Department of Computer Science to the Indian Meteorological Department, Lodi Road from 22nd September 2013 - 26th September 2013.

Students from different engineering disciplines such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Master of Computer Applications visited the Indian Meteorological Department. The visit was organized over a span of five days where Mr. Divyanshu Sinha (Assistant Professor, CSE Dept), Mr. Manoj Yadav (Assistant Professor, CSE Dept), Mr. Gulshan Srivastava (Assistant Professor, IT Dept), Mr. Tahir Rahman (Assistant Professor, Civil Engg.) accompanied the students.

The students and the faculty received a warm welcome from Mr. S.D. Atri, Director Indian Meteorological Department. The visit started with the SATMET Department (Satellite Meteorology Department) of the Indian Meteorological Department. Mr. Virender, Chief Scientist, SATMET explained the working of INSAT satellites to all the students and their role in meteorological data collection followed by a visit to the Data Center of SATMET where the working of servers of SATMAT was again explained wonderfully by Mr. Virender.

Thereafter, the students visited the Seismology Department of the Indian Meteorological Department where Mr. J.L Gautam, Director, Seismology Department explained how the earthquakes are detected by the vigilant staff of the Seismology Cell. He also gave a brief insight as to the reporting of earthquakes to the press and the Ministry. The session was very interactive where the curiosity of students prompted them to put questions to Mr. Gautam.

As an added bonus, the students also visited the Ministry Of Earth Sciences in the IMD Campus on the last day. The Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) is mandated to provide the nation with best possible services in forecasting the monsoons and other weather/climate parameters, ocean state, earthquakes, tsunamis and other phenomena related to earth systems through well integrated programmes. They were given a brief insight on use of science and technology for exploration and exploitation of ocean resources (living and non-living), and play nodal role for Antarctic/Arctic and Southern Ocean research.

The visit proved to be very informative and enriched the knowledge base of the visiting students.
