Workshop on

“National Programme for Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) Awareness”

Under the National Mission on Education through ICT, funded by MHRD, Govt. of India

A joint initiative of the IITs & IISc

29th August 2013

National Program on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) awareness workshop was organized at Dronacharya Group of Institutions, Greater Noida on 29th August 2013. NPTEL is a joint initiative of the IITs & IISc, funded by MHRD, Govt. of India under the National Mission on Education through ICT. Students of third year Mechanical, Electronics and Information Technology participated in the workshop along with several faculty members.

Prof. D V Bhise, Faculty Coordinator for the program introduced guest speaker Mr. Manindra Kumar, Member Campus relations, Classle knowledge. Prof. B L Kaul, Registrar, DGI, Greater Noida greeted the guest with a bouquet.

NPTEL provides E-learning through online Web and Video courses in Engineering, Science and humanities streams. The mission of NPTEL is to enhance the quality of engineering education in the country by providing free online courseware. The purpose of this workshop was to spread awareness about various platforms made by IITs and IISC wherein the resource material is available for students and faculty members of various disciplines.

The workshop was organized in two sessions. During the first session Mr. Manindra Kumar explained the concept of NEPTEL. He demonstrated online how the contents of engineering courses could be assessed by students and faculty members.

During the second session, online demonstration was given on Classle platform wherein in addition to NPTEL courses, student can also access online resource material of Khan and IUCEE University. The speaker emphasized that NPTEL is a better and trusted resource when it comes to e-learning than any other social networking sites. In this programme one can ask question through text and can help value addition by sharing their learning experience.

Third session was on Virtual Lab. Through Virtual lab faculty and students can familiarize themselves with the practical concept through systematic procedures, theory of lab experiments and by interactive simulation. In this session students were demonstrated with experiments from various laboratories. Experiments that can not be conducted in a lab easily can be demonstrated through virtual labs. Thus the facility available at remote location can be accessed by every student through the use of virtual labs.

Each session was made interactive through online quiz competition by the guest speaker. Students showed much interest in virtual labs for conducting experiments of various subjects. They were motivated to use this facility in future.

Prof. D V Bhise thanked Mr. Manindra for his efforts and presented him a memento. Participation Certificates were awarded to the students and staff.
