IEEE Sponsored Workshop on
Analog and Digital PLLs and VCO-based ADCs
STMicroelectronics India, Greater Noida
02nd Dec 2013

STMicroelectronics India, in association with IEEE Solid State Circuits Society (IEEE-SSCS), Delhi Chapter, hosted a workshop on Advanced Analog Design at Greater Noida, India, on December 2nd, 2013. The workshop was led by eminent professor and industry veteran Dr. Michael H. Perrott from Silicon Laboratories. The event targeted over 250 technologists in the National Capital Region (NCR) of India, providing them with a unique opportunity for hands-on design and simulations using free software tools.

The ST-organized workshop was co-sponsored by Freescale, Agilent Technologies, Synopsys, and India’s premier institute of engineering, IIT Delhi. The workshop aimed to facilitate focused interactions between the distinguished IEEE lecturer and academia/students while providing them with an opportunity for a hands-on experience in PLL design presented by experts on PLL and frequency synthesis.

Dr. Perrott’s lecture on Analog and Digital PLLs (Phase-Lock Loops), VCO (Voltage-Controlled Oscillator)-based ADCs (Analog Digital Converters) and Simulation of PLLs aimed at expanding the technical community’s design know-how in the analog domain.

A distinguished IEEE-SSCS lecturer, Dr. Perrott received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1997 with a thesis titled "Techniques for High Data-Rate Modulation and Low-Power Operation of Fractional-N Frequency Synthesizers.”

DGI students, Rishikesh Kumar, Saalwi Sinha, SmritiKumari, RitikaKumari, Nikhil Gupta, Ankit Kumar, Hement, Alok kumar, Pankaj, Rajan Sinha, Krishan Kumar and Naveen Basoya , all IEEE Members, headed by Dr. Sarika Gupta were delegated to attend the Workshop.

A Quiz Competition was organized during the second technical session. Rishikesh Kumar (ECE V Sem) won the Competition and he was awarded with Membership of (IEEE, SSCS) for the next year.

During the Plenary Session, Dr. Rakesh Kumar, President IEEE-SSCS, said, “We are pleased to sponsor Analog and PLL design perspectives from the leading contributors for the benefit of attendees in the Delhi region. This is a key part of our global outreach efforts and he would like to express his sincere thanks to the organizers and to STMicroelectronics for hosting this event.”
